10 Romantic Date Ideas in Stockholm

10 Romantic Date Ideas in Stockholm

Are you planning a romantic date with your loved one? Then Stockholm is the perfect place. Whether you’re looking for a quiet stroll in one of the city’s beautiful parks, a wonderful dinner, or an innovative experience, Stockholm has lots to offer you and your sweetheart. Holly Louise Eells puts together some romantic date ideas in Stockholm.

Monteliusvägen in Södermalm

1—Romantic walks from dusk till dawn

From spending quality time together in the great outdoors to finding an impressive backdrop to wow your loved one, Stockholm has so many outside suggestions to make it a memorable occasion.

Perhaps take a stroll around Stockholm’s oldest town, Gamla Stan and embrace the beautiful sunrise.

(Seasonal note: In spring and summer, being there at sunrise will be a real challenge 4 am-10am). Brace yourself and get up early, and wander around the picturesque, enchanting neighborhoods before it gets crowded with tourists. A dreamy stroll up to Stortorget Square is a must.

If you’re in the mood for a romantic stroll with memorable views, we can suggest Monteliusvägen.

It is a beautiful, narrow walking route that clutches the high sides of the trendy Södermalm island. You’ll find it hidden behind rows of houses above the waters of Lake Mälaren, connected to the streets by a few alleys and winding staircases.

Wait for the sunset and get ready to be mesmerized by the stunning views of Gamla Stan and Riddarholmen that unfold all around or try the early morning slot. Word of warning, be careful during the winter season when parts of the path might be a bit slippery (don’t lose your date!). There is, of course, a safety rail on the path.

2—Get lost in beautiful gardens

Lose your heart in one of Stockholm’s enchanting gardens, guaranteed to sweep you off your feet. The question is, which one?

For example, Rosendal’s Trädgård rose garden is simply beautiful. This hidden garden is an oasis in the heart of Stockholm and delights both the eyes and taste buds.

During the summer months, you can wander the apple orchards, visit the famous rose garden, as well as an off-beat greenhouse eatery that offers organic, delicious foods for you to tuck into.

3—Enjoy an innovative, indulgent dinner for two

A Stockholm dinner cruise could be the romantic spark you are looking for. Leave behind the hustle and bustle of the city and experience a luxury dinner cruise with a breath-taking skyline of Stockholm.

Trips depart from the central quays along Strandvägen and take passengers out to the fragmenting islets of the greater Stockholm Archipelago, to watch the sunset glowing across the Baltic Sea.

As you can imagine, the food is exceptional, such as À la carte menus brimming with mouth-watering Scandi smorgasbords of meatballs, lingonberry jams and mash to delicious sweet treats.

4—A view to blow you away

Want to impress on a first date or just after a cosy spot for two?

The city has so many spectacular spots to take advantage of, but the question is, where to go first?

Perhaps try the impressive climb up 13 floors to the Tak Rooftop Bar in Brunkebergstorg? It is a great escape and has exceptional cocktails, delicious tasters, great music, mind-blowing panoramic views in the most stylish surroundings. This is an occasion you will not forget for a long while.

5—Till death do us part

Switch it up and take your date to a cemetery for an atypical date night. Never underestimate the simple beauty of cemeteries.

There is a hint of wildness about the Skogskyrkogården, which adds to its charm. Designed by highly-acclaimed architects Gunnar Asplund and Sigurd Lewerentz, this picturesque cemetery connects architecture, art, and nature.

Set in tranquil pine woodland, it is accessible 24 hours a day throughout the year in all weather. It is an ideal place for those looking for a peaceful, long walk and perhaps get lost together.

Amongst your magical journey, see if you can spot the graves of actress Greta Garbo and Gunnar Asplund.

6—A picnic for two

If you are looking to impress your loved one, a romantic picnic can reconnect you and your partner. Your picnic can be as elaborate or simple as you like since it is all about the right person in the right place with the ideal food.

Try Djugården as your loved-up spot. The delightful green island of Stockholm is the perfect place to escape the city buzz and enjoy a picnic with a loved one. It is not hard to find that desirable, secluded spot just for you two when Djugården boasts a 10km trail, which features a beautiful waterfront, canal promenade, farm, and gardens.

7—Go all-natural

Stockholm offers so many beautiful surroundings for escapism, and Stockholmers have no shortage of green spaces. For example, Nacka has 12 different stunning nature reserves of varying landscapes of pine forests, swamps, and lake.

With many attractive areas to explore, get lost, and enjoy the natural, tranquil surroundings of small lakes, rocky outcrops, and wetlands, witnessing nature at its finest.

Recommendations include Nackareservatet, the largest nature reserve, which has 730 hectares to explore and Velamsund, the perfect place to dip in the lake. So, whether you want to swim, relax or walk, Nacka has it covered!

8—See the city by kayak

Looking to do something a bit more adventurous?

Kayaking is an alternative date suggestion that will guarantee lots of fun and team work, perfect bonding session we say! Not many capital cities are navigable by boat, but Stockholm isn’t your typical capital city.

It gives you the opportunity to explore Stockholm’s 14 islands and what better way to see the city than from on the water? Stockholm Adventures is a good place for guided or self-guided tours as you can rent one yourself or take a two-hour trip.

Not only does it guide you under bridges and from island to island, but a kayak tour will also help you avoid heavy boat traffic, and it provides you with a wealth of history too.  It is suitable for both experienced and beginner kayakers. D

9—Pretend to be royalty at a nearby palace

With so many beautiful palaces and royal estates near Stockholm, a great date idea is to head to a nearby palace (slott) and picnic or enjoy a relaxed meal at one of their cafes.

Take the scenic boat ride to Drottningholm and enjoy an organic meal at their Karamellan Cafe and Restaurant.

Located just south of Stockholm is Gripsholmslott and the town of Mariefred offers the quaint small-town feel for your romantic outing.

Skolkloster Castle is Sweden’s largest private palace and the white exterior with black trim offers visitors a classic romantic backdrop for your couple-selfie pic.
