The concept of weekend brunches has been around in Stockholm for quite some time and we’ve already recommended a couple unique brunch options here – from Fåfängan which has impressive views over Stockholm Harbor to S/S Stockholm which is my personal favorite brunch cruise in town.

Adding to this mix is the classic Jazz Brunch at Södra Teatern which is considered one of the most popular in town because of its heady mix of good music and good food. What Södra Teatern offers is a relaxing brunch set to live jazz bands playing in the background.

The Setting

With outdoor sitting on its terrace, the location itself on Södermalm, off Mosebacke Torg at Etablissement is one of the most scenic in town with views across the harbor to Gamla stan, Skeppsholmen, and Djurgården in the distance. During the summer, the brunch is extremely popular and often sold out because you’re coupling Stockholm’s mild temperate summer weather with a spectacular outdoor location which adds an ambiance even locals flock to.

The Food

The Jazz Brunch spread is filled with some traditional brunch items you’ll recognize like scrambled eggs, sausages, pancakes, various types of cheeses, and cold cut meats, but it also adds its own flare with mini cured salmon tacos, barbeque pulled pork sliders (mini burgers), poached eggs with truffle and spinach, macaroni and cheese, cheese tarts, and more, alongside a variety of freshly baked soft and thin crispy bread.

According to Fredrik Råberg, the restaurateur behind the Jazz Brunch and the Food & Beverages manager at Södra Teatern, “the menu focuses on classic brunch dishes, prepared with care, using carefully selected ingredients and quality as guiding principles.”

For dessert, there are tons of berry filled tarts, small cakes and brownies, mini pannacottas, and a cheese tray with crackers.

It’s important to note that the menu may vary depending on availability or even weekend changes on their end but for the most part, these are the types of food items they serve as part of the brunch.

The Music

The live music varies from weekend to weekend and they invite both local and international jazz musicians to set the stage and atmosphere. Performers like Swedish jazz guitarist Max Schultz, the Tommy Löbel Swing Band with its style of swing music, and the Daniel Bingert Trio which is a Latin-Swedish cowboy jazz band with elements of mystery and humor, have taken the stage and often alternate on various weekends. You can check out the listing of upcoming acts on the Jazz Brunch’s official page.

The Jazz Brunch at Södra Teatern is available on Saturdays and Sundays and you have to book a time which blocks out 1 hour 45 minutes for you to enjoy your meal and the music. The price of 275 SEK includes coffee and tea but you’ll have to pay for specialty drinks like mimosas and other cocktails.

A bit about Södra Teatern itself:

Södra Teatern is Sweden’s foremost international venue for music, theatre & debate. Since 1997, focus has been set on staging international performances. We house diverse events, spanning from club-scene entertainment, concerts, theatre and readings to children’s philosophy , to name a few.

The venue is the oldest theatre in Stockholm and is situated in the heart of the city’s bohemian pulse, with breathtaking views over the capital. Although built as a theatre, the main focus today is on music. The venue enjoys a solid reputation not only in Sweden but throughout the world, attracting vibrant locals and leading luminaries alike.
