Inside the 2019 Stockholm Independent Film Festival

Discover new films with the 3rd annual Stockholm Independent Film Festival May 11-12, 2019.

Celebrating its third year celebrating independent film making, the Stockholm Independent Film Festival will take place May 11-12, 2019 at the oldest running cinema in Stockholm, Zita Folkets Bio.

The Stockholm Independent Film Festival is a great way to support and experience films that push the boundaries of art in film. Both experienced and new filmmakers produce visual films that showcase their talents and passions.

The film festival showcases artistic expressionism, compelling reportage, and experimental storytelling across a wide range of opinions, ideas, and revelations. With over 2,000 submissions from over 50 countries, the Stockholm Independent Film Festival represents a diverse set of ideas, art, and stories.

The average run-time of each film is around 10 minutes with the shortest film being 2 minutes in length and the longest film running one hour and 37 minutes in length.

Saturday and Sunday screenings run from 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm and are free to the public. See you there!

A few films showing the diversity of the 2019 film festival program:

Grounded, United Kingdom, 10 min

Grounded is a true story of Swedish student Elin Ersson (played by Josefine Frida Pettersen) who became a global sensation when she stopped deportation by refusing to sit down on a plane.

Muffin, Greece, 17 min

Willing to pay the price for a new life, a man stops his car in the middle of nowhere and forces his father out, leaving him all alone in the woods; Haunted by his regrets, he then tried to cancel the agreement and bring his father back. What a surprise: there is no such thing.

Frontier Wisdom, United States, 5 min

In the dry desert space between here and there, a phone repairwoman encounters a chatty corpse, a self-propelled peanut, and some portents of the rapture.

Von Oben, Austria, 30 min

Every night Irene is hearing strange water noises coming above her in the apartment. When the tenants who cause them finally move out, the sounds keep on coming back… A short entirely set in an old Viennese apartment.
