Minigolf in Stockholm
Wailana Kalama rounds up some places to play minigolf in Stockholm.
Stockholm in the summer is an idyllic playground of sandy beaches, sunny boardwalks, food stalls and parks made for the promenade. Among the swings and ice cream vendors, miniature golf (or bangolf in Swedish) has also shot its way onto the summer scene. Popular among four-year-olds and seniors alike, minigolf is an easy way to bond with family and friends while soaking in the precious sunlight.
Here are four places in Stockholm to try your hand at some putt-putt:
Tantogårdens Bangolf
Located in Hornstull on the western coast of Södermalm, Tantogårdens Bangolf is an open-air course with 18 holes. Though the course doesn’t look like much at first–ponds of red tarmac squished together–each hole gets steadily more difficult and are guaranteed to be a challenge even for tried-and-true players.
Sitting not too far from Hornstull’s flea market, fill up on fish and chips and olives from France before tee time.
Fun fact: the facility was built in 2009 and played host to the 2011 World Cup.
Sundbyberg Bangolf
The stunningly beautiful Sundbybergs Bangolfklubb, located near the Mall of Scandinavia, offers two 18-hole courses amid leafy fields. With forested surroundings, large boulders, wooden bridges and green meadows, you’ll soon forget you’re still within city limits.
There’s even a large terrace where you can take a break with a refreshing light lunch of waffles, wieners, shrimp salad, and ice cream.
Swing by Golfbaren
Situated in the fabulous district of Vasastan, the classy Swing by Golfbaren is a combination restaurant, cocktail bar and golf course.
Take a blast back in time in this classy speakeasy, where the ambiance is swinging 20’s and the cocktails are always stylish.
Betwixt the leather couches, palm fronds and the bare brick walls is a cozy indoor course where you can show off your sophisticated spats. The menu is multiculturally American, from Boston lobster rolls, pulled pork sliders and cider-braised chicken–and the cocktails nostalgic.
There’s the Hemingway Daiquiri, a favorite of the infamous writer’s, the sweet and fruity Apple Jackrabbit, and a drink whose very name oozes class–Mistress Nell.
Golfbaren Kristineberg
Sister to Swing by Golfbaren, Golfbaren Kristineberg’s ambiance is more modern, more like a charming summer garden. The picturesque greens are a lovely oasis where you can enjoy a quiet game of minigolf, a refreshing cider and the occasional breeze.
Escape the stuffy office and come here for a peaceful afternoon. Bubble Thursdays are a treat, combining bubbly wine and mini golf for an easy 150 SEK. Located conveniently just off the Kristineberg metro station.
